Mission

The mission of the United Way of Ontario County is to unite and focus community resources to enhance the quality of life in Ontario County so everyone can thrive.

Vision

United Way of Ontario County will be a recognized leader bringing the community and resources together to drive change that improves the quality of life for residents in Ontario County.

The United Way of Ontario County is run by a partnership of dedicated staff and volunteers who work together to make our community a better place to live. Coming from all backgrounds and walks of life, our staff and volunteer leadership are helping to lead Ontario County to a brighter future.

United Way has evolved from its roots as a fundraising organization to a critical community convener that mobilizes local partners, including businesses, community leaders, public officials and community residents, to expand opportunities for people to succeed. We focus on three key building blocks:  a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, and good health. We focus on the concerns and aspirations of our local community, but we are also part of a worldwide movement for change. With nearly 1,800 United Ways making a difference in 41 countries and territories, we are part of a worldwide movement bringing millions of people together to solve community problems.

United Way’s goal is to create long-lasting changes by addressing the underlying causes of these problems.  Explore the main focus areas of United Way work listed below.

Education

Education is a cornerstone for success in school, work and life. Setting kids on the path to success begins with early intervention, and then, through high-quality education, students can graduate high school prepared for college & career. United Way focuses on long-term solutions and addressing opportunity gaps throughout the cradle-to-career pipeline in order to keep kids on track to graduating prepared for success. Education is divided into two focus areas: Childhood Success and Youth Success. Childhood Success focuses on early intervention and topics such as early grade reading and school readiness, while Youth Success deals with middle grades success, high school graduation, and post-secondary success.

HEALTH

Good health is an essential ingredient for individual success and a thriving community. Healthy kids are more likely to succeed in school. The whole community will flourish when all of our residents have access to public parks, playgrounds, healthy foods and quality healthcare. We are committed to more than short-term charity for a few; we are committed to lasting solutions that build opportunity for all.

ECONOMIC MOBILITY

The whole community benefits when more working individuals and families are able to stop walking a financial tightrope and get on solid ground. That’s why we focus on lasting solutions that go beyond charity, because financially stable people are more likely to have access to quality heath care, provide a good education for their children, and contribute to their local economies.
